Nine of Pentacles

Upright — the walled garden, self-won luxury

Venus moves through Virgo today, and her pleasure is a pruned one — she loves what has been tended. The garden around you was not given; you built its walls stone by stone, and today you are permitted to walk in it. Notice the fig that ripened because you waited. Let your hands be idle a while without calling it waste. The cost is the wall itself: what keeps the wind off also keeps the world at arm's length, and self-sufficiency can harden into a habit of needing no one. Enjoy the fruit. Leave the gate unlatched. Something may yet want to come in.

Reversed — gilded isolation, the garden as cage

Venus keeps her precise house in Virgo today, pruning, measuring, admiring — and the wall she built to guard the garden has grown taller than the fruit trees. Reversed, the card turns you toward what your competence has cost: the visitors you stopped expecting, the help you no longer ask for because asking would spoil the symmetry. There is real dignity in what you tend alone. There is also a gate, and it has been unused so long the hinge has stiffened. Today inclines you to test it. The gift is air moving through; the cost is being seen mid-labor, dirt still on your hands.
