Ace of Cups

Upright — the cup offered, the heart opened

Today the root of water breaks surface in you — the first spring, the source before any river learned its name. Something is being offered: a kindness, a nearness, a feeling that arrives without being summoned. The cup tilts toward you, and the only way to receive it is to be open, which is also the cost. What can be filled can be spilled. To let the water in is to let it move you, and moving water does not promise to keep its shape. Still, this is how tenderness begins — undefended, brimming. Say yes slowly, and let the overflow water whatever grows nearest.

Reversed — the cup declined, feeling dammed

The root of water turns its face away today, and the cup rests unfilled at your lip. Something in you has chosen the sealed spring over the spilled one — and there is wisdom in that choosing, even if it aches. Not every well is meant to be opened where the ground is thin. Today you may find feeling gathering behind a wall you built for good reason, warm and dark and pressing. The gift is the pause: nothing leaks that you did not mean to give. The cost is thirst — yours, and the thirst of whoever waits with hands cupped. Notice which wall this is. Some are doors.
