Knight of Pentacles

Upright — the quest taken up, the suit in motion

Earth moves today, but slowly — the way a mountain travels, grain by grain, toward the sea. This is the horse that does not gallop. You are given the plodding hour, the furrow walked to its end, the ledger of small kept promises that no one applauds. The gift is that what you build now will still be standing when the fast things have blown through. The cost is the ache of it: no thrill, no witness, the long middle of the field with the far hedge unmoved. Set your pace to the season, not to your hunger. Something in you knows the distance.

Reversed — the charge without a map

The plow moves but the furrow wanders. Today earth's slow knight rides without the field in view — either the horse refuses the gate, or you spur it hard across ground you have not surveyed. Notice which. The gift in this stalling is honest: motion you cannot sustain shows itself early, while the cost is only a morning, not a season. Let the map be redrawn before the next mile. Ask what the labor is for, and let the answer be plain enough to say aloud. Earth forgives the pause. It keeps poorer count of the miles walked in circles.
