The Moon

Feeling, memory, what you need before you can think

The fastest body and the most honest. The Moon is how you digest a day — what safety means to you, what you reach for at 2am, the mood that arrives before any reason for it. Nothing in a chart is felt more constantly.

Overdone, need runs the household: comfort now, at any price, decided by a two-year-old.

The story — Selene, who comes by night

Selene drove the night's silver chariot, and unlike her brother the Sun she was allowed to stop. She saw the shepherd Endymion asleep on a hillside and loved him — so the story goes, she asked Zeus to keep him in that sleep forever, and came down to him night after night, faithfully, in secret, for always. Nothing about it was reasonable and nothing about it ever changed. That is the Moon of a chart: the part of you that loves and needs before reason gets a vote, keeps its own counsel, and returns — every night — to what feels like home.
