Cancer
Cardinal water · ruled by the Moon
The shell and what it protects. Cancer is belonging — the instinct to gather, feed, remember and defend one's own. What carries it in your chart feels first and never quite forgets.
The cost is the pinch: care that curls inward, moods that take the household hostage.
The story — The crab in the great fight
While Heracles fought the many-headed Hydra — the second and among the worst of his labors — Hera, who hated him, sent a crab. It scuttled out of the marsh and seized the hero's heel: a creature of shell and sideways motion, pitted against the strongest man alive, because its goddess asked. It was crushed almost at once, and Hera set it in the sky for it. That is Cancer: the fierceness of the protector — a soft creature armored, loyal past all sense, whose love does not calculate the odds before it takes hold.
