Number 1
the pioneer
The first number, and it behaves like one. A 1 is built to originate — to be the source of a decision rather than a party to it — and it carries the particular loneliness of the person everyone waits on. Independence here is not a preference so much as a requirement, and it gets expensive in rooms that run on consensus.
Domination dressed as leadership — the room went quiet and you counted it as agreement.
At its best
- Initiative that does not wait for permission
- Clarity under pressure, when others are still gathering
- The willingness to go first, and therefore to be wrong first
At its cost
- Real difficulty asking for help
- Impatience that reads to others as contempt
- The belief that delegating is a kind of losing
